Kool Aid Playdough

on June 23, 2012

Play dough is one of those messy play activities that never gets old and most people don’t realize just how easy it is to make.  This particular play dough recipe is great to play with, the color is great and it smells wonderful!  Here’s all you need:

1 cup flour

1/2 cup salt

1 Tbsp vegetable oil

2 tsp Cream of Tartar

4 single serving packages of unsweetened Kool Aid or other powder drink mix (these are the small packages you mix into a 16.9 oz bottle of water)  I couldn’t find Kool Aid this time so I used the Market Basket brand and it came out just as good!

1 cup water

medium sauce pan

wooden spoon

wax paper

First mix all of the dry ingredients in the pan.  Add the water and oil and over medium heat mix it until a soft ball forms.  When you first add the wet ingredients it will look really soupy, but don’t add more flour, the mixture turns pretty suddenly into a nice soft ball.  Pour it out onto the wax paper and give it a few kneads.  Store it when completely cool in zip lock backs or sealed tupper ware and it will last for weeks.  Give the kids plastic knives, rollers, garlic presses, play dough scissors and cookie cutters and they will have a blast (and you will too!).
