A collection of fun activities for little hands!

on March 4, 2012

Just can’t let Dr. Seuss’ birthday pass (March 2nd) without introducing you to Oobleck.  Oobleck is a term introduced by Dr. Seuss in 1949 in his book, “Bartholomew and the Oobleck”, a fun story about a boy who needs to save his kingdom from Oobleck that has started falling from the sky instead of rain.  Oobleck defines messy play, but you are forewarned, it is truly messy!  It is a strange substance that is not quite a liquid, but not quite a solid, what it is, however, is really fun!  It’s easy to make place 1 1/2 cups of cornstarch in a bowl and slowly add while you’re stirring 2 cups of warm water.  You can add a few drops of food coloring if you’d like as well.  That’s it, now pour it into a high sided cookie sheet and let the kids explore.  I do highly recommend you place a plastic table cloth or shower curtain under the table where the Oobleck will be to make clean up a little easier.  When you are done you can place the extra Oobleck into a zip lock bag or throw it in the trash.   Do NOT pour it down the drain!  Have fun!!!
